After extensive travel bans and restrictions due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the Hawaiian government will lift all major travel limitations starting March 26th, 2022. This means that traveling to Hawaiian islands is soon to be back to normal for domestic flights. However, there are still some important changes that you need to be aware of before booking your tickets. In this blog post, we will go over all the recent changes in Hawaiian travel restrictions and what they mean for you!
Domestic Flights To Hawaiian Islands
Testing, Quarantine & Proof of Vaccine Requirements
You may be wondering what the testing and quarantine requirements are.
Previously, all travelers arriving in Hawaii from out-of-state will be required to take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their departure, or submit proof of vaccination. The test must be a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a CLIA certified laboratory or an approved Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). The test must come back negative in order for the traveler to bypass the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine. In addition, all passengers must fill out a travel and health declaration form prior to arrival.
Starting on March 26th, 2022, testing and quarantine requirements will be completely lifted. Since both of those requirements will no longer be in place, submitting proof of vaccination to bypass those testing and quarantine requirements is no longer needed.
Mask Mandates
Previously, the Hawaiian government was mandating that all travelers wear face masks in public spaces. This includes indoor spaces such as restaurants, shops, and transportation.
Starting on March 26th, 2022, the Hawaiian government will no longer be mandating that travelers wear face masks in public spaces including restaurants, transportation, museums, etc.
International Flights To Hawaiian Islands
There are two types of international flights that will be allowed: direct and indirect.
Direct International Flights
Passengers who arrive in Hawaii on direct international flights must still follow federal US entry standards, which include providing a valid vaccination document and having had a negative COVID-19 test result taken within one day of traveling.
Indirect International Flights (With A Layover In Another U.S. State)
When entering the State of Hawaii, non-resident international visitors from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers. Non-direct International passengers who are flying into a different U.S. state from March 26th won’t need to produce proof of an up-to-date vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result.
